Is the Alexander Technique what you’ve been looking for?

Would you like to move through life with more freedom and ease?

Do you feel tense, or experience aches and pains more often than you would like? Or perhaps you experience discomfort after tasks like working at a computer or gardening.

Do you feel stuck in a rut?

Does it feel like something is stopping you from reaching your full potential? You know you have it in you to achieve more, but somehow you feel blocked, or stuck within your comfort zone. Perhaps you’ve even started to doubt your abilities.

Would you like to get more out of an activity you love, such as playing an instrument or sport?

Maybe you don’t love this activity as much as you used to, because things aren’t going as well as you know they could. Or perhaps everything goes fine in practice sessions but when it comes to a concert or a sports game, your nerves affect you and that preparation seems to go out the window. Or perhaps you just want to push the boundaries in your performance and explore just how good you could be!

The Alexander Technique can help with all of these things!

The Alexander Technique is an educational process, which is taught through lessons. Alexander lessons are fun and fascinating! They can be taught 1-1 or in a group by a trained Alexander Technique teacher. I am an ITM Alexander Technique teacher, which stands for interactive teaching method.

In a lesson, the teacher uses a combination of verbal and hands-on interaction to work with the student, helping them to let go of unnecessary muscular activity. The student can bring any activity they like to a lesson, including day-to-day activities such as walking, or bending down to pick something up, or more specialist activities such as playing a sport or musical instrument. The teacher helps the student to reason out a simpler approach to the task in hand, which can make it much easier and more enjoyable.

Over time, the student learns to carry out this process for themself, and can apply the principles of the Alexander Technique to any activities or areas of their life that they choose.

Testimonials

My Alexander technique sessions with Kirsten have been a huge help. As a performer I feel much more relaxed and confident on stage, and my singing and playing has improved because of this composure and poise. The sessions have helped me in day to day life too. I feel like I’m carrying around much less tension, physically and mentally, and I’m moving more freely and easily.”

David Ian Roberts, Musician

Rebecca, Clinical Psychologist

“Kirstie is a brilliant teacher of the Alexander Technique. Her lessons are fun, flexible and productive. She has a relaxed, supportive and enabling approach. I highly recommend her teaching practice and have always benefitted from each lesson.”

Adrienne – Director of Act Now Creative Training

“Her use of hands is wonderful – delicate but tremendously effective, as you might expect from a superb musician. I heartily recommend her.”

Frances, Alexander Technique Teacher

“I first came to the Alexander Technique after suffering with back pain and only finding temporary relief from sessions with a physio and chiropractor. In my initial lessons and periods between I started noticing positive changes, my pain lessened and I rediscovered a love of learning. I felt drawn to the ITM approach to learning the technique as it empowers you to think about how you use yourself. That was 6 years ago. Now, my back is free from pain and I move with more freedom and ease than I had in years before lessons. Kirsten is a wonderful, patient, teacher with a warm, friendly personality and I look forward to lessons with her very much and to continuing deepening my understanding of the technique.”
